National Grid is one of the world’s largest investor-owned energy companies. We hold a vital position at the centre of the energy system, we join everything up. Society relies on having energy at its finger tips: it is built on it and National Grid owns and manages the grids to which many different energy sources are connected.
There has never been a better time to join the power industry. National Grid is investing £16bn through to 2015, delivering major projects that will secure the energy supply for future generations. Beyond that, today’s new recruits will help National Grid define how they meet the considerable energy challenges in the decades to come.
If University isn’t a viable option for you why not consider one of the fully funded programmes below for individuals with 5 GCSEs and 2 A2 levels.
Engineer Training Programme
(a fully funded Foundation degree)
£22,800 + benefits (rising to £30,150 on completion)
Entrance qualifications – 2 A2 levels
On this programme we ‘grow our own’ engineers, making sure they – and we – have the right skills to look after our gas and electricity transmission networks both now, and well into the future. It’s been developed with Aston University, making sure we get the academic/practical mix just right and will lead to a foundation degree in either Electrical Power System Management or Gas Transmission.
While you’re studying, you’ll be gaining experience on live projects, so that by the time you finish, you’ll be ready to start work on some of the biggest and most complex engineering challenges you’ll find in any industry.
Construction Engineer Training Programme
£17,600 + benefits (rising to around £30,000 on completion)
Entrance qualifications – 5 GCSEs
As part of our commitment to improving services for everyone, we’ve launched a major engineering agenda to renew the UK’s network of gas pipelines. To deliver this high-profile work we need talented people to join this programme.
Once you complete the programme you will be a qualified Construction Engineer responsible for leading your team to deliver projects. These will range in size and complexity, but each will pose its own unique engineering – and people management – challenges. Mixing on-the-job experience with formal technical and leadership training, the programme will last between two and four years.
Advanced Apprenticeships
£14,500 + benefits (rising to £23,715 on completion)
Entrance qualifications – 5 GCSEs
The Advanced Apprenticeship Programme can take up to three years to complete, and you’ll do half your learning on the job, and half in formal study and training which will take place on residential courses away from home.
By the end of the programme you’ll be fully trained as a Craftsperson/Gas Technician, ready to tackle a wide range of complex technical work including planned maintenance and fault-finding on our electricity substations and gas assets across the UK.
We have opportunities available across the UK – please see our website for full details. Early applications are recommended for the following locations as assessment centres are running soon: East Midlands, West Midlands & Warwickshire, London & Home Counties, East Anglia.
Whether you’re leaving full-time education or looking for a new career direction, find out more and apply online.
We also have opportunities for graduates and experienced engineers/professionals.
Our working environment fully values the diversity of people.
